Across the country, numerous annual award programs recognize the best examples of excellence and of innovative programs and projects that address challenges facing communities of all kinds.

This CLOSUP meta-database aggregates information on winning programs from numerous award competitions across the country, including among others, the National League of Cities' "Award for Municipal Excellence," the Kennedy School's "Innovations in American Government" award, and the Alliance for Innovation's "Muehlenbeck Award for Excellence in Local Government." This database begins with awards from 2006, but new awards will be added on a regular basis. Entries in this database are determined by a set of inclusion criteria, described here.
By spreading knowledge of public sector excellence and innovation, CLOSUP hopes to help foster further innovation and creative problem solving in public organizations across Michigan and beyond. Each entry in the database includes additional contact information for both the winning program and for the awarding organization.
