MPPS County Fact Sheets: Spring 2019 County-wide Fiscal Health


The Spring 2019 County-wide Fiscal Fact Sheets are from the Michigan Public Policy Survey (MPPS). While we typically report findings at a statewide level, because 73% of the state’s local jurisdictions participated in Spring 2019 we are also able to show summarized data for all local governments within any county.

MPPS Report: Energy policies and environmental leadership among Michigan’s local governments


This report presents information from Michigan local government officials regarding local energy issues and policies. In addition, the report looks at local officials’ opinions on environmental leadership in local government. These findings are based on statewide surveys of local government leaders in the Spring 2019 wave as well as comparisons to the Fall 2010 and Fall 2013 waves of the Michigan Public Policy Survey.

MPPS Report: Mixed signals continue for Michigan local governments’ fiscal health, while future outlooks worsen


This report presents Michigan local government leaders’ assessments of their jurisdictions' fiscal conditions and the actions they plan to take in the coming year given their financial situations. The findings are based on responses from 10 statewide survey waves of the Michigan Public Policy Survey (MPPS) conducted annually each spring from 2009 through 2019.

"Communities of Interest" and Michigan's new approach to redistricting through an Independent Citizens Commission


As part of it's new Michigan Redistricting research and service project, CLOSUP hosted a panel discussion with experts on the topic of communities of interest and how they factor into Michigan's new redistricting process.

MPPS Report: Michigan local officials’ views on the next recession: timing, concerns, and actions taken


This report presents the assessments of Michigan’s local government leaders regarding the next recession, including its expected timing and impacts, and whether their jurisdictions have taken action to prepare for it. These findings are based on statewide surveys of local government leaders in the Spring 2019 wave of the Michigan Public Policy Survey (MPPS).

EEPI Report: Belief (and Disbelief) in Global Warming: 10 Years of Attitudes about Climate Change in the NSEE


To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the survey, NSEE released a series of reports highlighting the breadth of topics we have covered over the past decade. This report presents time-series data on how American attitudes about climate change have changed since 2008, as well as comparisons to Canadian opinion.

Renewable Energy Policy Initiative (REPI) Policy Briefs


In May 2019, CLOSUP hosted a workshop in conjunction with the National Conference of State Legislatures, bringing state legislators from across the country who are active in energy issues to UM’s campus to engage Ford School and affiliate researchers.
