The new economic development strategy of "placemaking" (improving quality of life to attract talented people) is more likely to be used in Michigan's larger communities than in its smaller places: 41% of the state's largest jurisdictions are engaged in placemaking activities, compared to only 12% of the state's smallest jurisdictions. Still, leaders from 27% of these small communities think placemaking could help their efforts.
